I was soooo lucky enough to be chosen as a tester for Jenn of A Jennuine Life's first pattern, Matinee Dress and Peplum Top pattern.
I first saw this dress on her blog, when Jenn became one of the candidates for Project Run & Play, was it three seasons ago, I think, and I was so amazed by the dress she made. It was so beautiful and I've been admired it since then.
So, how could I not signed up for testing? I made a sleeveless peplum version for my older daughter, A.
The Matinée Dress and Peplum Top features a bateau neckline with a plunging open back. There are several options for customization: cap sleeves, a contrasting hem band, and dress or peplum lengths. It comes in sizes 12 months - 8 years old.
If you've been following my blog, you know A is a super skinny girl. She is 5 yrs old now and has 5T length and 2T width. I should have thought about that when I signed up for testing. This top turned out a bit wide on her.
I needed to lap over the sash much more than intended and ended up add one button there. Next time, I really need to choose right size for her, yes, 5T length and 2T width!
I used an yellow eyelet fabric I got from JoAnn's remnants rack. This was the first time to sew with eyelet fabric for me, I didn't have any idea what to use for lining. I asked to the tester group and they gave me some great suggestions.
I ended up using this white fabric which has pink and orange polka dots. Isn't this combination cute? And both fabric came from JoAnn's remnants rack ;)
Matinee Dress and Peplum Top pattern is available from TODAY! You can buy it on Jenn's Etsy shop and Craftsy. It will make your girls' perfect summer dresses and tops for sure!
The pattern will be regularly $10, but Jenn is offering a discount for the release through Friday. On Etsy the code is MATINEE20, and since Craftsy doesn't utilize coupon codes, the listing is at $8.
Happy Sewing!
I love that you used eyelet! And although I am not a great fan of yellow I have to say I'm in love with your Matinée top! It is beautiful!
