Yes. I made this dress with almost $1. How? Easy.
Go to a thrift store or an antique shop and get something to refashion for $1. Then remake it to the dress. That's it!
Well, maybe it's not so easy. I was so lucky to get this for $1 that I could refashioned into the dress.
I got this jumpsuit ( Is that right? I'm not sure how to call this) $1 at antique mall near my house. I also got some other dresses to refashion in $1. They were size in big girls' 8-12. Actually, I went there to get some fabric that I could reuse and make clothes, so when I found them, I got really excited. I thought I could have enough fabric to make dresses for my girls.
I wanted to make a dress with circluar skirt for A since I read this post on this fabulous sewing blog, Straightgrain. ( well, I think you all know how fabulous that blog is! ) Also, I wanted to make something vintage inspired by Vintage May series hosted by Craftiness is not Optional and Skirt as Top. I thought this fabric was just enough vintage-y to make a vintage dress with circular skirt.
But it turned out I didn't have enough fabric to make a dress only with this, when I cut skirt pieces from bottom part, pants. And I cut skirt pieces using this pattern of drop waisted dress, so I needed to add a contrast band on waist.
I cut another fabric and made a waist band. I also used that fabric for armhole binding. So that's addition to $1, and the dress was made with almost $1!
Contrast fabric is Quilter's Linen Print from Robert Kaufman. This has linen look print on it and is made from 100% cotton. I liked this. I think it's good for using as contrast fabric with cotton fabric.
Dress has a small peter pan collar which was on original jumpsuit.
And zipper on back also came from original jumpsuit.
This was first time to sew circle skirt, and I liked it. A seemed to like it too. So I will make another one soon! And I'm thinking making another vintagey outfit for T using another $1 thrift finding!
Just adorable!!

Fabulous refashion, Shino, and even better that it cost next to nothing. I really like the way you've broken up the fabric with the band and that you've been able to reuse the original Peter Pan collar.
