Are you ready for another $1 refashion? Here it goes!!
Oooo, I love love love romper!! It' s so cute on this almost 20months olds toddler!! And I also love love love gingham fabric! This colorful gingham is so adorable. So, why not the combination of the romper and gingham just amazing? Yay!
Do you think the fabric is adorable too? Well, (cough) that's another one I got for $1 at the antique mall!
This one was originally jumpsuit too and it seemed to be handmade. I only used bottom parts for this romper so I think I still can make tank or shorts for T with this.
I used camisole pattern of this book for top part. ( you can see the image of original one and another beautiful creation here, Sanae's beautiful sewing blog, Sanae Ishida. I made two garments using same patterns with Sanae lately.. Please don't compare!!) This pattern is not romper, it's faux romper, camisole top and matching shorts. I made a romper, well, just put them together.
Neckline of this camisole is gathered, but I tried to put smocking. I just select smocking stich on my sewing machine, but it turned out so vintagey and cute.
For bottom part, I used bloomer pattern from this book. All patterns of this book is made for knit, but I think some will work with other type of fabric( and this is not a knit). Original bloomer has elastic inserts on waist and legs, instead, I sew it together with top on waist and sew shirring there and also shirred legs.
I also changed shoulder straps. They weren't tied in original one, but I made them tied ones cause I thought it would be easier to adjust length and it is!
Toddler playing around in gingham romper is one of the cutest thing of Summer, isn't it?
Happy sewing, everyone!!
That is very cute! So summery :)

So cute! Love the smocking and the fabric. It's great that you were able to see the potential in the original garment.

I love this! I sew with an old fashioned machine but I may need to convert my embroidery machine over to regular sewing so I can play with the smocking stitch too!
