I was soooo lucky enough to be chosen as a tester for Jenn of A Jennuine Life's first pattern, Matinee Dress and Peplum Top pattern.
I first saw this dress on her blog, when Jenn became one of the candidates for Project Run & Play, was it three seasons ago, I think, and I was so amazed by the dress she made. It was so beautiful and I've been admired it since then.
So, how could I not signed up for testing? I made a sleeveless peplum version for my older daughter, A.
The Matinée Dress and Peplum Top features a bateau neckline with a plunging open back. There are several options for customization: cap sleeves, a contrasting hem band, and dress or peplum lengths. It comes in sizes 12 months - 8 years old.
If you've been following my blog, you know A is a super skinny girl. She is 5 yrs old now and has 5T length and 2T width. I should have thought about that when I signed up for testing. This top turned out a bit wide on her.
I needed to lap over the sash much more than intended and ended up add one button there. Next time, I really need to choose right size for her, yes, 5T length and 2T width!
I used an yellow eyelet fabric I got from JoAnn's remnants rack. This was the first time to sew with eyelet fabric for me, I didn't have any idea what to use for lining. I asked to the tester group and they gave me some great suggestions.
I ended up using this white fabric which has pink and orange polka dots. Isn't this combination cute? And both fabric came from JoAnn's remnants rack ;)
Matinee Dress and Peplum Top pattern is available from TODAY! You can buy it on Jenn's Etsy shop and Craftsy. It will make your girls' perfect summer dresses and tops for sure!
The pattern will be regularly $10, but Jenn is offering a discount for the release through Friday. On Etsy the code is MATINEE20, and since Craftsy doesn't utilize coupon codes, the listing is at $8.
I know you've been heard of and seen many fabulous creations from Perfect Pattern Parcel #2 (Me too!). In case you don't know much about PPP, this is it.
PPP is a new company that allows the buyer to select what they wish to pay for the bundled five patterns. A percentage of the sales goes to the designers of the patterns and the rest goes to charity. If you pay more than $24 you will 'unlock' the bonus pattern - the Prefontaine shorts by That Moxie Girl.
I’ve been in love with this pattern since a year ago or so. But I’ve also been intimidated to make it. Because A is super skinny and any pants for her age never fit her.
Since she has 5T lengths and 2T widths (and she is 5 yrs old), I used 5T lengths and 2T widths. And it worked!
The fabric is a stretch twill from JoAnn (this time, it’s not from remnants rack). I love the color and have been thinking about making jeans with this fabric for ME… hmm, is it too bold?
I love how this pants turned out and so does A. She really need some more Hosh pants for sure.
The tunic is sized 18mo, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12. It's suitable for boys and girls. It features two sleeve lengths with an optional button tab on the short sleeve, optional hood, front button placket, inseam pockets and chest pocket. Designed for woven fabrics (but Olga made one in knit and it was fabulous!).
I made a short sleeve without button tab, with inseam pockets and a chest pocket. I used Tule by Leah Duncan for Art Gallery Fabric for the main fabric and Dear Stella fabric for the contrast (neck binding and the chest pocket).
A loved the inseam pockets as much as I loved them :)
This tunic is cute pairing with shorts as much as pants.
(In case you are wondering, "what the heck is this awesome pants!?", well it is Hosh Pants and I will write a post about it + another pattern from Perfect Pattern Parcel #2 for its blog tour on this Friday! So stay tuned :))
I think this is the first time to make a pattern for Olga, but as I assumed, she did incredibly great job. It really is well thought and made pattern.
I bet you've seen some Willow & Co patterns testing post this week! These awesome patterns will be for sale starting April 22nd. Visit Willow and Co to find out more!
Happy Sewing! (And come back on Friday to see this awesome Hosh Pants!)
Do you know Willow & Co? It's the pattern company some amazing talented ladies gathered to offer great sewing patterns.
I was so excited to know that I could test some of their patterns from their newest, Wanderlust, a glamping collection. I knew they would be definitely awesome and I wasn't wrong!
This is ELM Raincoat by Celina from Petite a Petite and a family. Since we will move back to Japan inthis coming June, we definitely need to get raincoats for my kids. Because usually kids walk to their school even in rainy days (and June is rainy season in Japan)!
I will make another raincoat for A, but this time it is for T.
The pattern comes in size 6 months - 10/11 years old. It has an option for the visor, Chipmunk or Mouse ears. And you can add inseam pockets or/and patch pockets. It can be made lined or without lining.
Of course I just couldn't help adding these tiny ears on the hood.
I used laminated fabric (Sugar Hill by Tanya Whelan) and lined it with quilting cotton.
I really love the shape of this poncho. It's not simple circle, but has longer back and it makes this poncho so cute.
Also, I added patch pockets.
It was the perfect day for photoshooting this poncho today. Not so much rainning. But we even had some rain puddles...
I'll be sharing about the Mulberry tunic which is also from Willow & Co later. It's by Olga Becker from Kid Approved and of course it was awesome! These patterns will be for sale starting April 22nd. Visit Willow and Co to find out more!
